Our old cemeteries are incredible repositories of history that provide a direct touchstone to the stories, narratives and cultures that shaped our past and present. The Stories in Stone cemetery heritage conferences were established in Brisbane in 2024 to share these fascinating histories and perspectives with the public, bringing together highly knowledgeable presenters including historians, researchers and volunteers; industry figures; archaeologists; musicians; and social media creators. Every one of them is passionate about preserving and exploring our memorial heritage. After a successful second conference in 2025, we aim to make Stories in Stone an annual event that fosters greater community appreciation of our cemetery heritage. Planning is now underway for 2026 - watch this space!
