Unlock your Past, Inspire Your Future: Tambo Cemetery preservation

Therese Sargood (l) and Yvonne Finger (r)

We will address the state of the Tambo Cemetery in 2021, and the steps the Tambo Historical Association have taken to preserve and collate the history of our ancestors; the recording of marked and unmarked graves, use of ground penetrating radar, support of the local community and the benefits of mental health impact for council staff.

We will also talk about community involvement with cleaning days, functions and the influence of social media support, and the invaluable support from our local council. Tambo Cemetery is the oldest in western Queensland and its formation is unique.

Therese and I are enthusiastic researchers in discovering the missing names of the buried, as well as bringing some of their stories to life; why they came to Tambo and district, their roles or profession and the extended connections. We are proud to bring the cemetery back to life and hope to install a love of history for the next generation.
